Annoying pop-up ads veiledly install unwanted apps

There are lots of rogue websites that send unwanted pop-up ads to the users’ browsers. In order to achieve this, they try to lure users into accepting for browser notifications.

The dangers behind pop-up ads

Pop-ups are first of all disturbing for any user. They cover the texts or photos we might want to read or see.

Moreover, they can be also very dangerous, when we can not identify their source. In this case, the source is often a rogue website. Such a website is Testalloon[dot]work.

Just like many others, such as Freshnewmessage[dot]com or Goldeneraaudio[dot]org, it lures its visitors to sign up for browser notifications. Afterwards, it can send dangerous pop-up ads to either browser or desktop.

So, the first thing is to never accept ads from such dangerous web pages. First of all, because they will send extremely annoying pop-ups.

Moreover, there is one more dangerous thing behind these ads. Rogue people can use them to install potentially unwanted apps on the computer. And they never ask for user’s approval!

Stay away from websites which cause redirects

Testalloon[dot]work is just one of the websites that cause redirects to unreliable pages with ads. Although users do not directly visit this on purpose, they land hear from other unreliable web pages, ads or apps already installed on their machines.

In this particular case, the rogue website uses social engineering attack techniques, such as click-baiting, pretexting etc. Thus, some of the users fall for it and accept browser notifications.

In order to be more credible, the prompt box comes with messages such as “Click to continue,” or “Confirm you are not a robot.”

Any click on the allow button unleashes a storm of pop-up ads on the computer. Strangely, this happens even if we close our browsers.

But no victim should panic, as there are things to do in order to remove this. Internet Security Tips comes with the tips.

Anyway, in order to avoid any kind of pop-up ads, no matter they appear on legit websites, you can use Ad Guardian Plus.
