Learn more about CSS: the usefulness and the dangers

Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) is standard mechanism for formatting web pages. Developers use it to define text styles, for instance, but also other aspects of the web pages.

Why is CSS very useful?

Well, Cascading Style Sheet is the standard that helps developers define fonts, colors, and character formatting in a central location. Then, they can apply the rules they set for these on different or all HTML pages on a website.

It can also set table sizes and other aspects that could only be defined at the page level, before.

Thus, it does not help only developers, but also is a very useful tool to provide a better user experience. That’s because they can create patterns for the entire website.

So, users can easily use a website and better find and read what they look for. It becomes quite clear why almost all developers use it nowadays.

The dark side of the Cascading Style Sheet

Besides its usefulness, CSS might also prove to be very dangerous, indirectly. That’s because developers also use it to define where and how ads appear on a website.

So, it contributes to the way advertisers gather information about users, through third-party cookies and then use it to show more “personalized” ads. This means that users are followed by these ads, which also collect personal data about how users browse, their interests and preferences.

Moreover, if hackers get access to the data, they can run malvertising campaigns. Which means they will show online ads that may hide different types of malware, in order to infect computers.

So, here comes the best solution to prevent annoying or even dangerous ads appear on your screen. This is to detect and change the parameters of the web pages elements that contain ads. Thus, they can not even reach the browser.

Here is where Ad Guardian Plus jumps in. The ad blocker scans the web pages’ code and uses algorithms to hide all the ads on any web page. So, with its help, you can be sure you browse safely and and faster, as browsers do not spend time with loading ads.
