More control over personal data for Play Store users

Users should get more control over personal data, as Google started rolling out its new data safety section on the Play Store. This requires developers to inform users about the collection of data, the access to it and mention the collected data.

Control over personal data is must

Users will also be informed if the developers’ security practices have been qualified against a global security standard. Also, it would test if the aoo gas committed to follow Gooflw Play’s Families Policy. Moreover, there should be details about how users can ask for their data to be deleted.

As a rule, developers should revise their data safety section when they update the functionality or data handling practices.

According to the company, “displaying the data an app collects, without additional context, is not enough.” Also, users want to know how why are their data collected and if the developers share it with third parties.

The new data safety section will let developers “clearly mark what data is being collected and for what purpose.” Moreover, users will see if the app needs this data to work or if the collection is optional.

Developers still have time

The roll out of the new section has commenced. Still, develpers can fill it out until the July 20.

It seems to be the first time that the search giant encourages users to access the Android privacy dashboard. From here, they can manage app persmision for location data, microphone, camera options and review data access by apps.

The move comes just a month after Google removed an app with over 100,000 downloads from the Play Store. But this happened after experts warned that the app could harvest credentials of the smarphone users. Also, an important trigger was the Paris Commercial Court’s fine. Google was fined for acting abusively to developers with apps on the Play Store.

Google seems to consider more control over personal, after being forced by courts and lawmakers around the world.
